HAUT(E) Couture_ pig bladder as an alternative source of leather

The pig’s bladder is a material mainly characterised in its existence by ideas. It is extracted from its hiding- place, the inside of the animal, to e ect a direct confrontation, skin on skin, with the material often deemed disgusting in our imagination. To give the material a new quality and to increase the emotional value, the pig’s bladders go through a vegetable tanning process. This results in the transformation of an unappreciated by-product into the luxury good of leather.
